Yes museum-like.

AhEM! Well, as soon as it happened i had a vision of a BRAND NEW THING. Actually, an elaborate project, taking years to complete and creating a lot of jobs for the crippled, great city. i am not the biochemicalist, scientist, artist, professional for the job, but i think we should create a bioligical experiment for the new milennium INVOLVING: a spiralling tree jungle/articificial, pollution absorbant brand new way of cleaning the environment with thousands of architectual planning by ONLY THE BEST and ELITE picture a giant tree in New York, with a building inside--all artificially/biologically created it could absorb pollution and create oxygen and create hundreds of jobs... seriously this is the worst attack in america history i think it is only inevitable to respond by building the NEXT MODERN WORLD WONDER that is an absolutely serious and possible notion. AS AN AMERICAN, I WOULD BE INSULTED BY A PITHY LITTLE MONUMENT!

Our ancestors need to be remembered and our posterity needs a record of the past to build a better present

This is a sculpture that will go at the site of the Memorial Park. The sculpture will take a couple of years to build. It is the size of an atrium, 15X15 sqft. 11ft. high. It will rest on a marble "white" spherical platform four feet from the ground. The sculpture is of stainless steel for the skeleton and stained glass windows to fill in the skeleton. The shape of the sculpture is that of a blooming bud. One of the stained glass will be in the shape of a heart. This sculpture will be surrounded by a square of green and well pruned bushes. The sculpture will represent FAMILY AND LOVE. Many family members passed away and their love is still alive in their living family members helping and loving those around them. This concept is universal! This concept deals with our basic need and reason for living and dying. Finally, the Sun and its' location will complete the sculpture by creating a shadow on the floor of a flower, similar to the Magnolia. The colors of the stained glass will consist of blue, green, red, and orange. The sculpture is named "FAMILY"

A memorial should be built on the site of WTC and it's central feature should be the rebuilt Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nickolas which stood on the destroyed site, so that people could have a place to go and light a candle for the lives lost in the worst terror attack in the U.S.A.

A memorial park should be built with it's main feature a rebuilt Saint Nickolas church so that people can light a candle for the souls of their relatives, and a place to grieve and to never forget this tragedy.

The victims deserve to be remembered - with so many people being unrecovered - having a tangible item.monument/whatever it turnes out to be in which their spirit may remain will help me to say goodbye.

I would love to see that area become a park where LIFE may thrive. Trees, grass, gardens, plants, & ponds for fish & ducks. Perhaps some items could be made into small statues/memorials throughout the park or housed in a small museum. I should hope that NYC could give up this prime real estate for the memory of one of our nation's most horrific losses.

In reverence to those that have died. The shell of the support structure is a must. personal artifacts should be displayed in a museum so we do not forget.

circular Wall of Names surounding the superstructure of steel that supported the WTC, grouped by employer or work group, flight crews and passengers grouped together, firemen together, etc. Museum 1/2 above ground 1/2 below. in the museum a place for prayer, artifacts display, tell the whole story, NYC response, Pentagon flight, PA flight.

I think it would be a nice gesture to build a memorial to remember all the people that lost there live's on that tragic day

my idea for a memorial would be a statue of a firefighter holding his cap under his arm and a plaque with all the firefighter's names who lost there live's.

This is now Sacred ground, as a cemetary would be, and should be treated as such. There are many ashes there from ones who were never found. I cannot imagine another tower there.

Something very tradtional, please, not comtemporary. Maybe pieces of the actual towers, that were found in the rubbish could be used. A large wall with all the names of the deceased as well as the missing is a must.

for respect of the beautiful people that lost thier lives , part of all of us was lost, we all love our freedom as americans, we share this world with all countries and, we have been hurt but our tears will show the way.

Through tears Iam reading this site, the ideas are all so wonderful, we will put all of our ideas into action. I agree with all the ideas I have been reading and am at a loss for words, I am so emotionally touched and I know one day I will visit the memorial and cry.

This was an epic event in our world history, an event we will not understand for centuries to come. To erase the remainders of this tragic event is to erase history.

Retain the remainder of the original WTC and retain a sense of the ruins--as many acres as possible. Build a low-lying circular shaped structure that could house a world memorial park.

I think these artifacts should be saved to remember those we lost as well as those who were rescued and those also who were the rescuers.

A remembrance wall with all the names of those who died on 9/11., Theremembrance wall could have a picture of the WTC building.I think this would include everyone but also there should be something for the families who didn't give up searching for their loved ones. Something like a sculpture of some kind. Maybe the sculpture could be a fire fighter holding Father Judge I believe that was his name,I'm not for sure.He represented the undying spirit of all those who didn't give up searching, hoping, and praying for the rescue of anybody they were able to find. I'm not a millionaire or anything like that.I am a housewife and mother. What happened on 9/11 affected the whole country. Our prayers went up for the families as well as those who were looking for those who were trapped and those who were no longer with us. I would name this sculpture 9/11. This name because 9/11 means emergency and help needed. Sincerely, karen_moellenberndt@hotmail.com

I saw the ceromonies at September 11 and I felt very sad remembering what happened to your country and the people. Seeing the people who go there at Ground Zero with all their emotions, donating flowers in the middle I thougth to myself a house of peace should be erected at that place. The people who lost their relatives, the people of New York, even the people who just care need a place to remember the lost humans, to light candles, to speak and listen to each other, to contemplate and to pray. A building similar to a cathedral in the middle of Ground Zero where the lost lives are held in the arms of God and all friends and relatives have a place to pray. It would be a building of circular shape representing the globe with seperate entries for each religion. As a sign of freedom and peace the house should be open 24 hours each day. Through all the different entries the visitors meet in the middle where a triangle represent Love - Peace - Respect to each human being. Such a place, where people feel a bit closer to the ones they miss, feel the spirit of God and get the spiritual support of other human beings. I believe there is no better place as Ground Zero to send a sign to the world that humans need to respect each other as it is a long tadition in the US and especially in New York City.

I am sure most people including all victoms would like to see a STANDING UP WTC MEMORIAL not a standing DUCK WTC. so it must show HUGE GLORY ever had.

How to built is actually a next more easy subject for ideal people, the most IMPORTANT point have to carry out immediately shall be:-(1)How to avoid next attack(just in case)???(2)How to allow those people trap on upper floor have a guarantee safe path to escape rather than to chose hopeless jump???(3)How to bring fire fighters up and down quick and safe when all standard elevator out of order??? FORTUNATELY I have all the answer and looking for ideal developer and officials to accept my patent idea.

this is a sacred place and we should build a lasting memorial. we have to remember this is a burial ground for a lot of people. This might be prime NY land but what about the people who died there.

I think that there should be another building built there but the whole ground floor should be dedicated to the victims of september11 and all the peoples names should be engraved on the walls and a statue should stand in the middle of the room. out side there sould be a large garden with a monument in the middle and lots of flowers around it and benches aswell so people can sit and think about the victims of september 11.

Why I endorse saving WTC artifacts and building a Memorial at Ground Zero

Foremost, I think the wishes of the survivors and the family and loved ones of those who died must be respected. My view is that we build the WTC bigger, better, stronger and more patriotic than ever. I prefer a design that is massive on the skyline, where people stop to look in awe. That would be a fitting project. Perhaps the new name could be Memorial WTC and that an ongoing percentage of business profits go to charitable works around the USA and poor places in the world. Business must have a charitable, compassionate component. Chris von Deutschburg chrisjohn316@iprimus.com.au A Memorial by an Australian http://home.iprimus.com.au/chrisjohn316/memorial/index .html

See my Ideas

Ground Zero Memorial To my friends Mayor Bloomberg, and Governor Pataki Three main issues to consider to build a Memorial at Ground Zero: 1- Ground Zero is a sacred cemetery, a holy ground for the 3,251 people who died there on September 11, 2001 2- It is also the ground of an American Icon: The World Trade Center, the center of world trade, of commerce, the dynamo powering America, the system of trade, of exchanging value for value, to mutual benefit, in freedom. 3- We should build a Memorial without any fear of being destroyed again... don't you ever be afraid of terrorists... my son Jerome died there, and I already forgave the terrorists... and I am not afraid of anyone of them. The Memorial: 1- The central masterpiece should be a sacred memorial for the 3,251 persons who died. 2- A central masterpiece should also be to proclaim he value of freedom to work and trade. 3- And, of course, to build it without any fear to terrorists. How to Build It: 1- The tallest and greatest building on earth, well designed and protected... 1550 feet?... 2- One main and independent entrance, like a great temple, as a Memorial-Sacred-Cemetery... a holy ground like the Pyramids of Egypt!... this space should occupy the main lower floors of the building... the first 15 floors?... and then something sacred on the top of the building. 3- Another great main and independent entrance to the commercial part of the building, on most of the upper floors... floors 15 to 130?... Something like this!... but with the great temple entrance on one side and the great commercial entrance on the other side. The top of it would be like the Eiffel Tower, ending with a cross or a star... There should be enough space for a sacred park at the Memorial entrance and enough space at the Commercial entrance... for this reason, two buildings will not make it. And, of course, there should be a lot of underground space for parking, both in the Memorial and in the Commercial sites... and both of them independent. http://www.biblia.com/911/memorial.htm

Not much emphasis has been placed on who should occupy rebuilt office space. I believe a memorial park and museum should be built along with new office space. This new office space should be occupied by the corporate offices of the FDNY, NYPD, and Port Authority. These organizations current headquarters can be utlized as prime realestate for new companies and their relocation to downtown Manhattan will help bring the economy in downtown back. Visitors to the site will be able to express their appreciation for these three organizations visually by just showing their presence.

To remind people of what happened there for decades to come

I would like to see a statue standing in a garden of rememberance. This figure would be a half size figure of the statue of liberty and built the same way but instead of standing with a liberty torch she would be made to resemble the Virgin Mary with her hands pressed together under her chin in a praying pose with her head bowed in reverence.I think this would be a very fitting symbol to everyone who has lost someone. This statue could be made out of the salvaged copper from the towers over a framework of steel also salvaged.

To the family's that lost their loved ones on 9-11, to the firemen, the air traffic control that help, to America.

My thoughts is that we should build two towers of marble in the footprints of the WTC. The two towers would not be as big as the real towers once were. Each and every victim of the attack, all the firemen that helped, and the air traffic control's names should be engraved in the marble on each merorial towers(like the wall at Washinton D.C. They should be sorted into sections like: The Faithfull people on Flight 93 (names), Firemen of FDNY(names) and so on. There sould be 4 ponds surounding the 2 towers with fountions in them, flowers, trees, benches, etc. People could come at free-will. I don't think there sould be a museum in the place of the world trade centers. If they should build a museum, build it away from the site. God Bless America

Just as we can never forget the holocaust, we can never forget the horror or tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001. I am all for saving artifacts and creating a museum.

I believe we should make the footprints of the WTC into an arboretum. A tree should be planted in honor of each victim with a plaque bearing the name of each person in front of their tree. Landscaping and other plantings should complete a meandering design with niches for private benches for reflection. Also, family members of the victims should be given a cutting from their family member's tree to perpetuate it at their own home. I have spoken to many people about what should be done and although no one has come up with an idea, they all feel strongly that it should not be a cold, stone monument. Those people were not cold, stone structures and the tribute to their lives should be as alive and vibrant as they themselves once were. Of course this arboretum should be carefully tended and if a tree should die, it should be replaced immediately, preferably with a cutting of the original tree, life goes on, and so should the living tribute to their memories. A nominal admission fee should be charged to help maintain the site, but family members of the victims should be given a special lifetime pass allowing them permanent free admission.

It will be the site that future generations of humans...not just Americans will want to visit.

WTC Memorial Idea; I don't know if anyone is taking ideas. Two reflecting pools of black granite (symbolizing WTC) with the names of victims engraved in bottom of each pool. A mechanism that will drop a single drop of water into each pool at the minute after the hour that each building fell. This symbolizes the ripples that were felt across the world. My idea is simple but I had to share it.

While I can understand the sacredness of those grounds and the need for a memorial by the individuals who lost loved ones and the nation as the whole, I also feel that the City of New York will need to regain the millions and millions of sq footage of office space lost in the catastrophe. I feel that both these needs can be met in a sensitive and responsible manner.

I really like the idea of the sky line being returned to its original pre 9/11 shape. I think it would really say a lot about our nation's manifest right and destiny to exist and be a deliberate rasberry to those who would challenge that. I like the idea of a large helical museum, much like the corners of a parking garage or stadium, 5 or 6 stories high joining the towers together. On the outside wall of the walk I can imagine artifacts, portraits, and written narratives telling the story of that day as you walk up. The inside wall could be pexiglass overlooking the center atrium which would house a scaled hologram of the towers as they stood prior to 9/11. The names of the ones we lost would be engraved into this wall. This hologram would enact the events one time a year precisely when and as they happened. Upon reaching the roof, visitors would find themselves in a beautiful garden, the new twins towering above, a testament to our ability as a nation and a people to heal and rebuild. God Bless those who lost loved ones and God Bless America!

Honestly I hadn't given it alot of thought. I stayed up late last night, and watched a show regarding this subject on PBS. The utter disrespect that some of those people have shown for SACRED GROUND is sickening. Once again everything comes down to the almighty buck. This is an outrage. The WHOLE site should be a MEMORIAL. These people need a place to grieve. The spirits of the departed need time to move on after such a horrific death.

At some point if it is possible move the firehouse as one guy suggested on TV today. Hey, if we built those Towers we can move a building. Those guys deserve at least that for giving their lives for us. *Also a legal Holiday should be added. If not possible we could utilize another Holiday that we are forced to "celebrate".

Those lives that perished in the WTC should be memorialized and we as Americans need to let the terrorist know we are stronger and more UNITED.

Rebuild the WTC according to the original blueprints, with a few changes: 1. It's stronger, wider and can withstand the impact of the largest aircraft (government assist in mandating this size) 2. A museum that lists the names, company and floor location of the victims on the main floor along with a historical series of events and artifacts leading up to the newly rebuilt towers 3. A series of emergency fire exits for floors 20 and up, that would resemble a laundry shoot, near the center of the building, to aid in a faster escape route.

While I think that we need to try and rebuild some sort of structure (probably decades from now) to replace the towers themselves, I also think it is important that we take the metal from the landfill and make a fitting memorial. While I am relieved that my daughter was too young to understand what was going on that day, I think it is important for her to someday know everything about 9/11/01, and why that is such a special day, a day to take pride in being an American, and how something that happens hundreds of miles away can feel like it's the next town away. I want her to understand that there is a big world outside of Montreal, Missouri. I have never been to New York, and I'm saddened that I never saw it before 9/11/01. I would like to visit someday with my family, and learn as much as I can bout the World Trade Center, as it has always been a very important part of our American history and culture, even more after September 11, 2001.

I think a museum, that tells something about every person that lost their life there on that day is a great idea, built right in front of where the towers once stood. The friends and relatives of them can have a space on the inside walls of the memorial, to tell a little bit about the person that they cared so much for and lost on that day. The inside can be filled with artifacts, and alot of general information about the Twin towers, and the many businesses housed there.

Because many of these individuals, who are someone's loved ones, were infinitely fused within the ashes, the fallen drywall, and melted plastic that are burned into the ground at the site.

I read that the people of New York do not want a "super block" anymore. I think a series of several "normal" block size buildings with a center "key memorial building, tapering into a scraper as tall as the WTC would be nice. I think the "key" building should have a memorial garden running up the center of the building, encased with glass that would act as the inner wall of those offices surrounding it. Not all the glass in the upper floors should be surrounded by offices. Some of this space should be open for observation areas. There should be a running water fall, to represent the continual flow of life, despite the loss, and plants from all around the world to represent the nationalities of those who died. I think the panes of glass surrounding this "memorial garden', should be etched with the names and brief description of each person who died in the WTC. This garden in the key building represents a heart and soul and should contain pieces from the original WTC, and as much earth and organic materials as possible from the site in the garden. The building around the memorial garden represents the continuing, non faltering spirit of American freedom, and our undying will to keep carrying on, despite our great loss. The structure is a "spit" in the eye of those who wish us harm, as it allows for respect for the dead, memoriam for the family and public, and the continuance of the great American dream, " Success in Capitalism.

This was a great tragedy and to just discard everything and build a new skyscraper would mean to me that we forgot. The people that died that day were brave, innocent souls, who did not deserve the fate that was thrown at them. We need to always remember who those people were and what they stood for... Hard working Americans. We need to honor their families memories of them.

I think we should allow the families to decide what to do, and add their own little part to it.

A place to remember all the lives lost and a place to teach and learn of all religions and ideas. If we do not take from this tragedy education and learning , acceptance and healing, and most of all playing it forward for future generations, so that they will learn and teach, then what was such a grave loss to endure for the future?

Two pillars of white that reach the sky, with names of all who cared and died. A stone of black marble, set in between, displaying heroes for all to be seen. Row upon row of flowers and walkways, gives hope to the souls who feel left astray. The small shop has returned, and faces unyurn, to see we still thrive and time still moves by. An open air market of art from the world; music is played; the children will learn. Of utmost importance, of all that is said; up top of each pillar, a place to be led. Through the center of white, a pilgrimage of hope; for all those who come, to love and to cope. Upon your arrival at the top of the sky, you look out to see New York is alive! All around are books of old and of new, the Koran, the bible to name just a few. Budda, muslim, christian, abound; learning is knowledge; take this and be found. America is red, white, and, blue; but hast we forget the yellow and maroon. Take this vision and pass it around, we will not forget, we will rebuild this town!!!

The many families who never had a funeral for their loved ones, or for the many that were never found. Ground Zero is there resting place, it is where they breathed their last breath. So that is their and was their funeral. so leave for the families to have some where to lay flowers and mourn for their loved ones.

I feel that it is important to build a memorial in honor of all the lost lives. If we don't build something in remembrance, how long will it be until something with no significance to 09/11/01 is built?! A memorial will ensure that that day is always remembered, even 100 years from now.

I think it should be something with pictures and the names of all who died. It should be kind of like a museum. That way, years from now, people who didn't experience the tragedy can go and learn about it first hand.

What happened on September 11th is a memory that we will take with us for the rest of our lives... It is important that we share this tragedy with our children and their children so that the memory of those victims that lost their lives during this disaster shall never be forgotten !

On the foundations of the both towers I would create two identical squares with in the centre an eternal flame with the names of those who were killed in the towers on that day. Also I feel that every day at the time both towers went down the national anthem should be played.

To preserve a part of history and to have a place for people to go and pay homage, etc.

After watching the services this morning at ground zero (9/11/02)I thought a fitting memorial would be to take the world trade center "foot print" (the circle) and make it into a reflecting pool with either the victims names within the pool itself or around the reflecting pool or possibly an image of the towers somehow reflecting in the pool

I FEEL THAT THE SITE OF THE WTC SHOULD NOT BE REBUILT ON. IT IS A SACRED PLACE NOW. LIKE MANY PEOPLE, WHEN A LOVED ONE DIES WE WILL AT SOME POINT GO TO THEIR RESTING PLACE TO VISIT. THE FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF THE VICTIMS FROM 9-11-01 NEED A PLACE TO GO TO REMEMBER, TO TALK, OR TO FEEL THOSE PEOPLE. MANY WERE NOT ABLE TO GET CLOSURE. EITHER THEIR LOVED ONES WERE NOT FOUND OR HAD PERISHED. GIVE THEM THIS PARK AS THEIR CLOSURE.

PUT THE TALLEST STEEL BEAMS THAT ALL THE FIREMAN AND CONSTRUCTION WORKERS HAD WRITTEN ALL OVER AND THE STEEL LEFT STANDING AFTER THE FALL OF THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRADE TOWERS. PUT THEM TOGETHER ON EACH END OF A WALL BEARING THEIR NAMES. BUT AT THE ENTRANCE PUT THE BEAM THAT IRONICALLY WAS LEFT STANDING AS A CROSS.

Out of respect to those that died, and their families. We can't feel their pain like they do, but we can care and want to help.

I think, to build a house of many religions, would be a fitting memorial for all that perished on the 9th September 2001. It's design would include the architecture of many religious buildings, inside, each religion would be segregated into different areas for prayer and service. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a house of prayer, of many different beliefs all praying side by side under one roof. For those that don't believe in a God, there could also be a small garden outside that could represent the celebration of life. And of course for all those that died, they would have a more of a personal memorial, like their names written on a plaque as you walk through the gates, reminding us all of why it was built in the first place. The World Trade Center, represented and united all countries round the world, I think we should keep it like that, by building a building that would do the same again, but not by power, money or wealth, but by hope, belief and love. There have been too many wars around the world because of people's different beliefs, maybe a building like this could represent the unity that America stands for.

A tribute to all those that perished on that fateful day. A place where the world can visit and be reminded of the innocence lost for our freedom.

A Building in the shape of a cross, with 9 stories across and 11 stories down. The first floor being a museum with a chapel for prayer. Outside in each corner, a courtyard with trees, flowers, a fountain in each courtyard with a symbol for the 4 planes victims, benches, and brick pavers with ALL the victims names.

Why I endorse saving WTC artifacts and building a Memorial at Ground Zero

My ideas for the memorial

WTC artifacts must be saved as a reminder of lives lost and to honor the bravery of firefighters and police officers everywhere. Not to mention the dedication of all those involved in the clean up of the WTC site. It goes without saying that there MUST be a memorial at Ground Zero. Innocent lives were lost due to acts of terrorism. We must honor these people by placing a permanent memorial at Ground Zero. We should also include the names of the search dogs whose lives were lost while searching for people.

A place where people can sit quietly to remember those whose lives have been lost. A place where they can light a candle and say a prayer.

Because of the Evil Despicable acts of terror, we, Americans, need something to remind us of that cold, yet sunny day in September.

An Eternal light for each person, who perished on 9/11. A different color shade with each person's name engraved should be placed over a flame for firefighters, police, each flight, Twin Tower 1 and 2, and the Pentagon. The different colored flames should be arranged over the sixteen acres of land known as 'Ground Zero' to all Americans to remember the good that came out of the dispicable acts of terror on that sunny day in September. The flames should be sitting sitting on benches, with a flame, a place to sit, then another flame, so family members can sit with the soal of their lost one. Patriotic music should be heard in the background to confort all visitors to the memorial. Remember, The attacks brought Americans together as one, neightbors became family, and strangers became neighbors. This sixteen acres should be something to bring us, Americans, together as One.

The victims' families deserve a place to come to and remember their loved ones, and to remember the brave people who risked their lives to save others so the victims shouldn't have died in vain.

A large wall like the Vietnam Memorial on the sites where the twin towers once stood. Two planes should be in the center of a garden where the names of the people on board the planes are on a plaque written in gold. The garden should have a flower planted for each of the victims in the buildings and on the planes. A separate memorial should be built for the NYPD, NYFD and others who helped.

Among the most powerful memorials in the World are the Coventy Cathedral in England and the Kaiser Wilhelm Church in Berlin, both of which are based on surviving ruins. Since so many victims have not been recovered (my son-in-law included), it is absolutely essential that steelwork from the WTC be included in the memorial.

I have a suggestion to solve the controversy between those who feel that the entire site should be a memorial and those who feel that rebuilding great office buildings to revitalize lower Manhattan is essential. Both of these ideas are absolutely valid. A possible compromise would be to build large office buildings around a central memorial park. The names of all the victims would be permanently engraved in the facades of the buildings, in letters large enough to be easily read from the ground.

Here's an outsiders point of view, submitted respectfully: The rebuilding process (towers or whatever is chosen) should be put on hold for one whole generation; the future generation should be free to decide what to place/keep on the site. In this time, no idea is possible because of the emotions (eg: build the towers, but who will dare work in them?). So, I would place a center memorial (a pair of very thin, very tall, rising spires with that blue light effect for night), surrounded by grass and trees and streams. In the space, around the spires, place aprox 3000 benches, facing inward. Each bench would be dedicated to one victim, with a plaque describing his or her life. In front of the spire, a concert stage could be tactifully placed for public memorials/ even concerts. Underneath the whole thing, build a museum dedicated to the WTC. I realize that this does little for the business district in the area; however traffic patterns suggest that it's time to take the pressure off there. The area will benefit greatly; however, from the visitors it will attract. And as I said, make it clear that a future generation can re-claim the land, should they wish.

All the ground, all the pieces, are all part of sacred ground. There are people there who perished whose families had nothing of them returned, but they are still there; in the ground, amongst the steel and concrete. Those places and pieces are the people who are mourned.

It is possible to construct a soaring, inspirational memorial that incorporates the WTC artifacts. They could simultaneously be linked within one memorial complex yet remain emotionally independent. There is only one location for the memorial and WTC artifacts, at Ground Zero.

My design, called "Endurance Memorial" is a 20-story glass fountain with design elements that symbolically memorialize the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. Water will flow down the sides of the twin towers, collect in a suspended pentagon-shaped pool, and then drop to a lower pool through 3,000 holes (each dedicated to a victim). The fountain will sit in a large circular, tree-lined plaza (Pennsylvania). The plaza will include five glass walls on which are inscribed the victims’ names. Observations decks will be inside the towers and, at night, a blue laser from each tower will be seen from great distances. An object of beauty and reflection, the structure will be a fitting centerpiece to this sacred site, now and for future generations. To view the design, visit: www.endurancememorial.com

For the same reason my husband and I felt compelled to go visit the site ourselves, months after the events...to have closure, and to grasp the enormity of it all.

The towers should be rebuilt at least to some capacity -- seeing the skyline now just breaks my heart...it has left such a big hole. Future generations, however, won't ever be able to grasp this unless they are rebuilt to some extent. Even if they scale them down, I feel very strongly that there should still be structures similar to the wtc there. I also agree there should be a museum, a wall of names, and an area for contemplation.

To show that evil never wins.

Build a memorial that represents the United Religions of the World. All religions have a foundation in principals and truths similar to: "Love thy Neighbor as thy Self"; "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"; and there is "Love, Hope and Charity. And the greatest of these is Love". Build a memorial that portrays through a display of all world religions that the victims of 9/11 will not be forgotten and that they did not die in vain. There are so many ways or options for designing a memorial such as this. I believe a foundation for it can be found in the current United Religions Initiative. Please review the web site: http://www.uri.org/rio2002/english/frame_uri.htm This memorial could have many purposes all in rememberance of the victims of 9/11. The document "Earth Charter" which you can find in the above web site provides profound insight as to what the memorial could represent for all of us. For, in fact, all humanity is a victim of 9/11.

They should build back both towers just as tall as they were, however, only the bottom half of each one should be office space. The top halves should be hollow space, as in the Washington Monument, that would be a memorial to those who died (maybe with the phrase "We Will Never Forget" carved into the top of the building). The NY skyline will be back to the way it was, which many people have expressed a desire for, but since alot of people would now be hesitant to work on or rent on the top floors of such a tall building again, it makes sense to only have the bottom 50 or so floors be office space. Having the top half empty would be symbolic in that it reminds us of the lives lost in the building.

As it has been shown unexpected things can happen anytime any place and so just the chance that something like before will happen again is too much risk. As 2nd people died there and so you shouldn't put a building up above them, but a memorial so they can be remembered as well as the reason why they died, because although we have to move on, they must not be forgot!

There is a void in people's lives since 9/11, there shouldn't be a void in the skyline. I believe filling that void will show our strength and tenacity as a nation and help everyone rebuild and become stronger. WE may get knocked down but we get up again and are stronger than before. Sure it might be a future target, but then again anywhere in the US could be a target. I don't think we should be afraid to rebuild a great structure or one even better..isn't the point not to live in fear.

Our 29 year old son John Charles Willett was on the 101st floor of the South tower. His mother and I don't really care about the cost of preserving the real estate value of the WTC location. There definitely should be a lasting memorial built on the site. It is a graveyard site no matter how you view it. Please don't worship the almighty dollar. We would give every penny we have to have our son back. What do we prove by having buildings built so tall with total disregard for the occupants. We provide state of the art protection for the gold reserve in Fort Knox but we can not provide necessary protection for the irreplaceable humans that are employees or guests of these death traps. Shalom.

There should be an international Garden of solitude and respect for all who lost their lives. Possibly an art gallery in good taste. Art made from remnants of the WTC.

Having been in Oklahoma on the day of the Oklahoma City bombing, and having visited that memorial, the memorial has comforted many people from friends and relatives to people like me that knew no one. I can express my grief and anger through prayer at the memorial. I would visit NYC in the future to pay my respects to the ones sacrified at WTC, and also Wash, DC

Plant 3000+ trees; one for each victim. As photographer Joel Meyerowitz has eloquently described, this would be a living memorial. Loved ones could visit a living symbol of victims lost. Trees could represent the nationalities of those lost (seedlings could be imported from all the nations of victims who died there). As Joel also said, this would lend fragrance and oxygen to this site which has been so ravaged. I also feel this would send an important message to the world. That money is no loger paramount, that we need not reclaim this site as a center for commerce. A forest would be a humane, beautiful, enduring statement, impervious to destruction and offering opportunities for visitors and residents to obtain some peace and perspective on this tragedy we will never forget...

This is the worst tragedy my eyes have ever seen, I feel the ones who risked their lives to save the already injured deserve a memorial honoring them. Innocent, hard working individuals died making the American dollar turn around as our government sat on facts of suspicious motives of Al-Queda members planning an attack, our government owes them this memorial. May they all rest in peace.

Firefighter and police men statues, a plaque of all the names of the victims, an eternal flame somewhere burning to reflect the patriotism shown days after the attack. Flags from every country that lost a victim. I'll stop there.

Through the devastation, it reminds us how truly fragile we are and that there is, was, and will always be more to life than the almighty dollar. It also sends the message that as a people, Americans really DO care about one another, even though we may not often show it.

I consider it sacred ground. I have acquaintances who lost their lives there.

My design for a memorial statue uses a combination of a recreation of Lady Liberty and wreckage from ground zero. Liberty arises from the wreckage, one hand pushing herself away from the wreckage, the other holding high either an American flag or a torch. I prefer a torch, because of the loss felt internationally, and the symbolism of freedom. I would like it to be an actual eternal flame. Her face should be tilted slightly upward, with a calm expression, both resolute and defiant. If this idea has already been expressed by someone else, my apologies.

I agree with previous comments that there is a need to honor those whose lives were ended so tragically. For the remainder of their lives, anyone over the age of 3 will forever remember this devastation unleashed on the world on September 11 and where they were at the time they learned of it. With travel so common and available to all, a tasteful and respectful memorial on the site would result in a constant stream of people paying homage to those who died.

An engraved wall listing those we lost placed in a garden. Perhaps an aviary to represent hope. Keep it clean, keep it well lit and patrolled, maintain a focus. As has been recorded for other tragic events - "LEST WE FORGET"

I would very much like for there to be a NON-DENOMINATIONAL CHAPEL where people can say a prayer for the Eternal Rest of the Victims, for those of us who remain, for Peace or for all three. A good model for this would be the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX. Certainly a sculpture with all the names of the victims must be there also.

For the exact reasons you just stated -I would like to see a Ground Zero memorial designed and built with a nobility of purpose. A memorial/building complex of uncommon beauty and enduring value: bigger than the Coliseum of Rome, more majestic than the Parthenon in Greece, more enduring than the pyramids themselves. A patriotic work of art expressing who we are and what we truly stand for: Freedom. If laying a strip of blacktop less than 1,000 feet in length (for the sole purpose of saving 10 minutes driving time) is our way of responding to a terrorist attack upon the United States of America, t hen shame on us for ever thinking we are the greatest nation on Earth. Extending Greenwich Street through what is arguably hallowed ground does not send a message of America’s greatness. Neither does 16 acres of grass and trees, nor an eclectic hodgepodge of nondescript buildings merely meant to restore 14 million square feet of corporate office space. I am not opposed to a site of mixed-use, butt should not be a business as usual approach at the expense of a fitting memorial. In fact, what this Manhattan project urgently needs is a visionary, someone who sees the entire site as a memorial. Not to belabor my point, but from all the memorial news items I’ve been reading since September 11, the one thing sadly lacking is a nobility of purpose. If the urban planners, architects, adventure capitalists really viewed Ground Zero as our golden opportunity to build an American icon -one that sends a powerful message of American unity and resolve-they must put aside their special interests and build with a stately theme in mind. And that theme, in my opinion, must be an icon to FREEDOM. Anything less would be a narrow-minded, misdirected enterprise; anything less would be a watered-down testimony of what makes ours the greatest Nation on Earth; anything less than proudly proclaiming the one thing we cherish most, freedom, would be a monumental failure of vision.

I believe in keeping things simple. The memorial at Ground Zero should be a simple design boldly expressed: the entire 16 acres (including addtional footage if West Street is lowered as planned) can and should be raised up as the symbol of our freedom. And make it a national monument. I drew blueprints and mailed them to the New York Post back on Dec.7 with the request that they enter my design into a future contest, if any. The Post has yet to inform me one way or the other. I regret not taking copies. However, here is the basic idea: 12 buildings arranged in a circle, like a clock, with a memorial honoring all the victims and heroes(WTC, Pentagon, Pennsylvania)placed at the center. The centerpiece is what I call the Eternal Flame: thereof the largest segments of the original Twin Tower collapse grouped together in the shape of a symbolic flame". This is surrounded by an unpolished 3-foot high black stone wall. Each victim is remembered by a named stone marker, and each hero has his/her badge number as well. Markers are placed in concentric circles outside the wall. At last count the total deaths were 3,062. Those from the WTC have a unique color code: black for civilians, red (fire dept.),white (EMTs), and blue for police personnel (closest to the "flame"). The memorial courtyard is divided into quadrants by two pedestrian paths which form a cross, or large "X" depending on how you see it. Within the courtyard, you might imagine being inside a large king's crown because the rear of all 12 buildings is a circular shape, with 8 of those buildings taller than the other 4. A catwalk runs the entire inside perimeter at the 10th Floor, connecting each building; a 3-foot black band above and below the 10th Floor (at 9 & 11)symbolizes September attack. Finally, a brief look at buildings from the street. There are four sets of twin towers" one each at precise N-E-S-W coordinates each 50 floors. And the remaining four buildings are the cornerstones -the four I chose which I think best symbolize the freedoms we’ll cherish: Education The Arts Defense Diversity For example, Education is symbolized by a structure resembling an open book, and The Arts by a piano. Defense (a stealth plane)and Diversity (horozonta lbands of different colors). All four of these freedoms are 17 stories, with 5 more floors atop that -each the same: picture a fan window with five sun rays, like the crown on the Statue of Liberty -5 floors of mostly glass, symbolic of the light of a brand new day.  I would also like to seethe Fritz Koenig sculpture and original courtyard fountain outside at the corner of West and Vesey, as the first thing you see travelling into complex from upper Manhattan. If I bored you with all the minutae, I apologize. Without my blueprints, I'm winging it after seven mos. Nothing else to add. Any comments, tips, critique, etc. drop me a line atOrfethewall@webtv.net. Thanks. Orfe

The entire world expects to see a fitting memorial. People from everywhere will want to visit the site for many years to come. The memorial should meet or exceed people’s expectation. The Memorial should represent an everlasting symbol of freedom and hope.

Whatever architectural structure is built, it should incorporate sustainable energy products including: photovoltaic, passive solar, fuel cell and wind technology. The memorial can make a statement that we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce pollution and create thousands of jobs. What better legacy for the people who died and their friends and families?

The people of this nation must have a place of remembrance of this tragedy and there is no better place than the site itself

There should be several memorials in a park like setting honoring airline flight crews, passengers, firefighters, police officers and those that worked in the towers.

Because it's the right thing to do. What more needs to be said.

There is only one idea and that is to remember all whom lost their lives. Doesn't really matter how or what, just that we do it.

Focus on the victims, who they were and why they were there

We need to build a memorial for all of the lives that were lost and it would be nice if people could go to the memorial to remember the people that died in the WTC attack and remember the air planes that went in to the towers and the pentagon.

The events of 911 have made a permanent mark on the American people. We need to honor and remember those who lost their lives because of these evil acts of terror.

Please not just another wall.

One of the firefighters was a cousin of mine. He gave his life so others could live. Don't let the sacrifice of the rescuers be forgotten!

Something simple, non denominational that represents all walks of life that died that day.

9/11 brought shock and tragedy to America and the world. Out of tragedy comes hope for the future. A Memorial could be a permanent place for harmony and peace for future generations to come to and reflect on the horrors of terrorism and the disregard for differences.

It was the one of the worst things to happen in American history. Or even the history of the world. We should never forget those who lost their lives that day. And a park would do that. A place where the roses can bloom and our hearts will be allowed to heal.

Anything other then four new buildings.

For some this is a burial site for there loved ones. Sept 11 should not be forgotten.

In Okinawa Japan, there is a park with a memorial that has all the names of serviceman that died in WWII during the Battle of Okinawa. It is called Peace Prayer Park. I think a memorial like this would be very meaningful. The names of the people who died in the World Trade Center should never be forgotten. Their memory should always live on!

People need to always remember not only the fallen heroes, but all the people who were never found. Those nameless had families and I'm sure they would want their loved ones to be honored in a lasting memorial and not be forgotten!

A presentation of the lives of all those who lost their lives or saved those during this tragedy; a photo gallery of personal pictures, similar to Ellis Island and the immigrants, where families and friends, today and in the future can come and experience the human side of this tragedy

Because WTC attacks made America unite once again, even though of a terrorist attack, it made people realize how special America can be

Shine the lights again, stand around what would have been the WTC and give a moment of silence, sing worship songs, remember loved ones who lost their lives on 9/11

Rebuild the towers, and place some of the parts from the old towers, as a memorandum, in front of the entrances.

Because it is the right thing to do, We must never forget such a tragedy. "If we forget where we have been, we can always let ourselves go back that way" We need this to remain strong and if we forget, we may weaken forget our cause and return to thinking we are invincible........ God bless and keep those families of the lost in our prayers and memories forever..

A fireman memorial w/ angels The fireman pushing the flag upward A flag holder for all countries who lost people Pictures of that day A pile of ash with us rising out of it A site where the fireman/policeman port authorities pass the flag to the soldier with the caption We'll take it from here The first and last are my favorites

My husband is a New York City Firefighter and has lost numerous friends at the World Trade Center disaster. The site is hallowed ground and deserves to be treated with respect. The people who worked in the Trade Center were just going about there daily lives, trying to provide for their families. They and all who died that day should be remembered, and what more fitting memorial than to use artifacts from the place where they spent most of their time away from their families trying to provide for them. Office buildings should NOT be rebuilt there. It is a sacred gravesite.

It would be comforting to all concerned to make a park area where families could go to sit and reflect. They should have an area with stepping stones with the names of the people who lost their lives imprinted on them surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees with benches to sit and reflect.

People of the world should have a constant reminder of how our lives changed that morning. A memorial should be erected in memory of those lost, of those who rushed in to help others, those who serve our country, and the freedom we fight for. A reminder so that we may never take our freedom for granted and symbol for generations to come.

It would be very nice if some of the original material of WTC was used.

Because I have a Petition as well: http://www.petitiononline.com/911wtc/petition.html

Two glass towers, encasing remnants of the towers (to protect them) and placed in exact location of original towers. Names of all tenants and visitors etched in the glass. The towers would be lit at night to illuminate the names. A bridge of marble or marble-like material, would span from tower to tower and the names of those from the airlines and the Pentagon would be etched on the inside of the side walls of bridge. There would be a wall with all the names of rescuers along with statue on one side of the bridge. On the other side would be a glass enclosed structure (similar to the Winter Garden) that would house a fountain and in the center of it would be a cauldron with an "Eternal Flame". Tables and chairs inside as well. This enclosure would allow full viewing of the memorial site while being protected from weather, and a place where visitors can come together. I never put this idea on my petition because it was written back in early October, and the pain was still too fresh to allow myself to envision a memorial. There are, however, a few early ideas on the petition.
