RELEASE OF SOULS

Beginning October 2001, over seven hundred ideas and sketches symbolizing the tragic 9/11 events were submitted from around the globe to  the WORLD MEMORIAL Foundation.  It is with great pleasure, to announce the Release of Souls (ROS) Memorial, created by Canadian artists Louis Louw, Dave Rouleau and Kathleen Tonnesen, will tour across America.

The 18’ monolith tribute had its International debut 7-14 November 2003 at The Seaforth Highlanders Armory in Vancouver. Honor Guards, 9-11 surviving family members, dignitaries, emergency service leaders, guest speakers and several thousand people attended the week long ceremonies. The opening event included a 2-hour live concert with Glenda Rae’s Darkest Night, Fiona Blackburn, 15th Field Artillery Regiment Band, Seaforth Highlanders Pipe Band and Miles Black’s ROS composition. Exhibits from local artist were also hosted, including Reflections by Fire Fighter Jim Nedelak.

The Memorial structure represents the WTC Steel as testament to all heroes of that infamous morning.  Engraved are the names of 343 Fire Fighters, 72 Port Authority & NY Police Officers, EMT/Paramedics, Flight crews, Court Officers, K-9's, and who lost their own lives in the quest to serve others. We will never forget their laughter, color and light that brightened our lives.

T
wo ROS paintings are symbolic of the Twin Towers that vaporized to nothing.  Close your eyes and visualize the release of three thousand souls, all at once breaking free, filling the sky with a brilliance of color and resolution.  Two Empty metal frames are indicative of a place where you expect to see your loved one in daily living, but no matter how hard you look the space remains empty. The Pentagon foundation represents the tragic events in Washington and Pennsylvania.  The Memorial promotes peace in all corners of the earth; honoring the many walks of life and cultures represented by the World Trade Center.
