Dear WORLD-MEMORIAL,
I AM A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, VIETNAM VETERAN (HELICOPTER PILOT) AND PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. I SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING IDEA: 2
FLAGPOLES AS TALL AS THE 2 BUILDINGS, WITH ENORMOUS FLAGS. THESE FLAGS COULD BE SEEN BY ALL WHO LOOK UP AND ALL WHO FLY BY. SIMPLE, YET ELOQUENT.
THE FLAGS WOULD ALWAYS BE MOVING, WHICH WOULD BE A SYMBOL OF AMERICA. PLANTED UNDERNEATH...ORNAMENTAL GRASSES TO REFLECT THE PRAIRIE AND OUR GREAT COUNTRY'S HISTORY. THESE GRASSES WOULD ALSO ALWAYS BE MOVING. STILLNESS IS STAGNANT. A MEMORIAL NEEDS TO HAVE A LIFE OF ITS OWN. A WATER FEATURE COULD BE BUILT AT THE BASE, FOR REFLECTION AND SOLACE. MORE MOVEMENT. AND OF COURSE....AN ETERNAL FLAME. ALL OF THOSE WHO DIED WOULD HAVE THEIR NAMES ENGRAVED IN THE MASSIVE BOULDERS THAT WOULD MAKE UP THE WATER FEATURE. BOULDERS FOR STRENGTH.
